Hi!

I am Destanie Kirkland, a Licensed Professional Counselor at Sharp Wellness. I like to think of myself as a steady, supportive, and grounding presence where growth can naturally take shape. More of a guide that walks alongside you, not in front. I work with children, adolescents/teens, and young adults who are navigating anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, or periods of adjustments.

Destanie Kirkland, M.Ed., LPC, NCC

I try to create a collaborative, supportive, and non-judgmental approach to provide a safe space to process emotions. I help strengthen skills such as emotional regulation, stress management, focus/organization, and helpful communication. My goal is to provide support across each stage of developmental transitions including increased responsibility, identity exploration, and changing expectations at school, work, and home.

  • Finding Your Calm

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, exhausting, and hard to understand-impacting school, work, and relationships. I help young clients better understand their anxiety and develop skills to manage strong emotions, stress, and worry. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to each client’s needs where we can work together to discover what helps you feel calm, more confident, and in charge of your emotions.

  • Exploring Your Story

Therapy often involves exploring the story of your life-your experiences, challenges, and strengths. Whether it be through creative expression, reframing, or focusing on specific moments in life-storytelling allows clients of all ages to have an opportunity to reflect, gain perspective on emotions, and find meaning.

  • Growing, Learning, Being You

This is a place where you can just be you. All your feelings-big, small, or messy are welcome here. Together, we can work to learn that worth isn’t measured by what you do. Everyone has struggles, mistakes, and things they are still learning- and that’s okay! I hope to focus on learning to love yourself for who you are, not what you can do. Together, we can talk about your feelings, celebrate your strengths, and practice being kind to yourself, even when things are hard. You do not have to be perfect or have it all together to deserve care, respect, or love-especially from yourself.

  • More About Me

When I am not working, I am either with friends and family or looking for a new place to explore/ travel to. I also enjoy thrifting, watching tv with my cat, exercising, and playing my Nintendo Switch. One fun thing about me is you can always find small clues to some of my favorite shows around my office space!
